Boat monitor (BM) is a standalone monitoring device that monitors basic boat functions, NMEA 2000 sensors and offers CZone integration for remote switching and alarms. Boat Monitor comes with a SIM card included, therefore requires a yearly subscription to cover the data transfer and server/app maintenance and updates. First year subscription usually comes bundled with the device, after that you can renew your subscription in our web shop (https://sentinelmarinesolutions.freshdesk.com/support/solutions/articles/26000034904-how-to-renew-your-subscription-plan-) if you are and end user or by contacting us if you are a business user.

Basic theory of operation

The boat data is updated frequently when the boat is moving to achieve optimal route accuracy and sensor data density. However, when the boat is still the data is only updated every 20 minutes unless some critical event occurs (such as door opens, shore power disconnects,...). Therefore, any non-critical changes in sensor values can take up to 20 minutes to be visible in the app. You can always toggle one of the critical inputs to force update of complete sensor range. You can even toggle one of the remote switches to achieve that.

Sensors

Your connectivity license covers streaming of 10 concurrent sensors or more. Out of all available sensors you can at any time select number of sensors covered by your license.

Use edit sensors screen to select/deselected sensors. Deselected sensors are not shown in the sensors screen and alarms form these sensors are muted.

For NMEA 2000 sensor selection refer to the following guide:

CZone integration

By connecting BM to a CZone system you get remote access to CZone remote switching and alarms (CZone license required). Upon connection, available remote switches are read from CZone configuration and presented in the app. However only remote switches properly configured will show up in the app. If you reconfigure remote switches use Refresh CZone configuration in Edit swithces screen. You can read more on CZone integration setup here:

https://sentinelmarinesolutions.freshdesk.com/support/solutions/articles/26000034667-czone-integration-guide

CZone alarms are transmitted as soon as they occur. Once alarm is shown in the Sentinel app it has to be ACKed on CZone side before it can be re-transmitted to sentinel app (this logic may change in the future).

Wireless extensions

BM has a built in Bluetooth connection which allows wireless connection to Sentinel hubs, battery monitors, Calypso wind instrument, Torqeedo motors and more... Contact us for more info on this topic.
